PROCEDURE FOR DRILLING

1 LEGAL REQUIREMENTS AS PER THE LAW OF KENYA

a) Drilling Permit from Water Resources Management Authority (WRMA)
b) Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) - get the approval/Licence from NEMA
c) Get No objection Letter from the relevant Water Company or County as required

2 DRILLING PROCESS

a) Carry out hydrogeological Survey with registered Geologist
b) Prepare the Hydrogeological report
c) Mobilise the rig and the personnel to the site
d) Set up the rig on the site where the borehole is supposed to be drilled
e) Commence drilling
f) Install the surface casings to prevent the borehole from collapsing - put the surface casings as per the require depth which will be determined by the formation of the borehole
g) Continue drilling as per the required depth
h) Supply and install the casings - norm for the casings is 70:30 - 70 per cent plain and 30 per cent screen, however, depends on the design of the borehole ratio of casings can be changed
i) Gravel pack - supply and insert 2-4mm gravel inside the borehole
j) Develop the borehole till the water is clean
k) Cap the borehole - this should be there till the pump is not installed
l) 24 Hour Test Pump - pump out the water for 24 hours. This will determine the yield of the well which will also state the size of the pump to be installed
m) Collect two (2) litres of water from the borehole for Chemical and Bacteriological analysis by any authorised agency
n) Prepare a Completion and Test Pump Report

3 INSTALLATION OF PUMP /EQUIPPING OF BOREHOLE

a) Recommend to the client/customer size of the pump to be installed after looking at the Test Pump Report
